Default Looks like it's time for the open conversion

Well every now and then my jeep likes to **** all the coolant from the pressure cap. Like my last jeep I fixed that one with a new cap well actuall several new caps. I'm tired of that the guy I got this one from was nice enough to include a open radiator and it looks to have the provision for the fan switch. I watched bleepin jeeps vid about the swap. Seems simple just two questions. The tranny lines should be the same and work with no mods right. And 2 what do y'all use for a catch can ? I'm working with a 90 limited.

The female and male ends of the tranny lines might be different. And for my question to further help; what's a catch can? Is the radiator building up to much pressure? It might not be opening fast enough. You could try taking out your thermostat so your coolant runs continuous .

Catch can is the overflow tank come thing to catch spare fluid on an open system.

My system is working properly it's only when I key off after a while driving the cap won't keep the pressure.

I couldn't say honest! You could spend a 1.99 on a thermo housing gasket and see if your thermostat is being stuck closed

I don't see how it would be stuck closed it Dosent over heat at all. A stuck thermo would cause an over hear or an over cool situation. My last jeep ran no thermo and did the same thing. From what I have heard it's a common thing with closed system.

One or two things to try before switching which might be easier. First, you can try a new pressure tank from the junkyard in case yours has a leak. Second, and I might even try this before a new tank, is the Volvo radiator cap fix. Basically, the stock cap seems to hit the hood and distort as the pressure tank expands. This causes the cap to not completely seal and the Jeep to overheat. The Volvo cap, Napa part number 703-1396 I believe, is shorter and the threads seal better. It should be around $6 or $8 at the local auto store and might be a cheap and easy fix. Worked on my 87 that was chronically overheating. You really have to tighten that Volvo cap down hard though. There's also things like the 92+ thermostat housing or the drilling a hole in the thermostat itself, but those two are mostly for burping the system which helps. I don't think I would remove the thermostat or reduce to a lower temperature one (another common "trick") because that makes the system work in a way it wasn't designed to.

Good luck!

I'm not having overheat issues I'm having issues with the cap coming loose like I have on both my renix jeeps. New caps have always fixed them. But I'm tired of having a finicky closed system. It's great when it's designed properly. This one is not hoses running everywhere crap bottle crap caps. The closed systems I work in at work are great bottles last 15-20 years caps just the same not made of blow molded milk jugs. They stay running at 80* c all day.

If the biggest issue is the plastic pressure bottle, you can get a metal one that should last quite a while. Of course those are around $130 or something like that so if you have the other parts I could see the conversion being worth your time.

The Volvo cap seals and fits much tighter than the stock caps. It fixed my issue and seems like a relatively cheap fix for a system I don't have any more problems with.

Whichever way you end up going, I wish you luck and hope it makes your cooling system work trouble free.
