You're right, we won't be driving soon because to many cars will be too advanced and none can fix it but the dealer and we all go broke just trying to keep them alive and no one will be able to because their to broke to fix it, resulting no one driving! A better site probably than this one. Just a bunch of whiners here (well, there are some good folks here, but obviously a lot of whiners too).

The same could be said for EVER SINGLE CAR MANUFACTURE. As I have pointed out, times change. People can choose (cause we do live in the US) to embrace the change or fight it. A select few may even do both. Frankly, if one can grab a new KL, adding an XJ to the garage probably isn't that hard. Jeep, just like everything has to address the needs of the future. Jeep cannot build an XJ. It would be irresponsible to build that way. Hell, it could be argued that all vehicles like the XJ have cause the situation we are in (depleting resources, increase gas pricing, etc.) Sure, people were a little more ignorant of their surrounds in the past, I'm sure in 20 years when the Jeeps are almost exclusively aluminum and have hybrid power plants if not hydrogen powered, we'll look back at how that version is so terrible. The clear picture from this situation that has been made abundantly clear is a large majority of XJ owners cannot cope with the fact the future is here and they aren't going to get what they want no matter how much they whine. Jeep and 90% of the population is waking up to fact we need to progress. In the larger picture it is why retro styled vehicles is dying. GM learned it can't continue to produce low production "special" vehicles. Ford neither. Honda and Toyota to have to fight for things that once they took for granted. Jeep and the KL will be but a foot note in this whole progression of time, and the amount of time people are complaining about could be better served working on their XJs if they love them so much. There is NOTHING the KL is doing to jeopardize the ownership or ability to play with the XJs. Hell, with a regenerated name recognition, might find a slight bump in resale pricing. Certainly happened for vehicles with re-birthed names (Charger, Challenger, Camaro)Originally Posted by NewKindOfClown

I am a little baffled at the original owner's decision to sell the XJ to get the KL, cut that is their deal. It isn't for members to question. It could be as simple as he lives in a town home with only a two car garage and three cars don't work, or maybe a wife/gf is part of the reason. But whatever, the sickening part is the level of hatred placed upon someone who came to this forum. The fact moderators have allow such conduct to go on without some "time outs" is reflective of the reason many folks would like to see the Jeep arena evolve. I myself sold my Jeep in part because of the stupid conduct of this site and elsewhere of so-called "Jeep enthusiasts". I met some great Jeepers but they are becoming fewer and far between. Not exclusive to Jeep (why I prefer the Legacy & Forester crowd over WRXs/STi owners in the Subaru world...maturity).
The original poster should consider just moving to a better site (see my earlier post with the link) as it is obvious folks here will not conduct themselves properly and rather than waste time, just go see if their better. You can always read the posts and such here if looking for info.

What is wrong with having a dealer take car of your vehicle. I don't see you fixing your own TV, computer, game console. Did you build your own house? Did you make your own furniture, or fix the furniture that broke. Did you manage your own retirement plan or is someone handling that for you. Sometimes you may be able to do one or two of these things, but unless you are one of the few people in this world that can do it all....(but then you'd likely be making serious money too). You acknowledge that we're free to choose not to buy the KL as if we don't know that, yet you make it sound like the Jeep name has to sell rebadged Fiat vehicles (which is what the KL was originally designed to be). Jeep is entirely capable of selling simpler, capable vehicles to their market. They (Chrysler, then Fiat) chose to move toward the higher end market. Even the JK Wrangler is so loaded down with electronics that owners are limited. Even worse in that regard is that everything in the vehicle is dependant on the electrical system which has always been notoriously shoddy since ******. Nobody is trying to stop technology from advancing. You're arguing a moot point. The problem we have is that the powers that be have chosen this direction to go. Can we change it? Not as simply as saying we don't like it, no. But this is a forum, and we're allowed to explain why we don't like it just as you're allowed to tell us we're immature and ignorant of the way the world works.Originally Posted by stormitecture

As for why he chose to buy a KL, it is for us to question. He doesn't have to tell us, but I can't think of any reason why we shouldn't be curious. This is even more clear given that he was initially asking about mods. You need to understand usage in order to make recommendations. A DD, an expedition rig, a mudder, and a crawler should all be built differently because they require different things. Same goes for the KL if anyone chooses to produce aftermarket offroad performance parts.

Staaahhhppp getting your panties in a bunch, if you weren't so heated, you can see its a sarcastic joke. And ya this forum isn't exactly nice to the kl(wont call it a chero) but that's because it's like comparing apples to oranges, you can try and convince us it's and apple but we all know its a freakin orange and doesn't belong here. The other site isn't better because of people, it's better because its suited for a mall crawler rig lolOriginally Posted by stormitecture

The problem with the dealer taking care of our vehicle is that we have to put our faith in someone else to fix it. Many of us work on our own vehicles both for satisfaction and savings. You get neither when you need to take your vehicle to the dealership. An even bigger problem is the fact that they're making things proprietary so owners can't do anything to their vehicle. It removes our options, and it ensures they get a paycheck. When the service life is done and they decide it isn't cost effective to maintain those vehicles in the future, owners are ****ed.Originally Posted by stormitecture

Furthermore, I do repair my own stuff when I have the means to do so. I have no problem learning how to do something so I can add it to my repertoire. "Advanced" is great when it's an improvement. When it's a change to secure the manufacturer's future income, it is backwards.

I agree with you stomitecture. While I love my XJ and do not mind bouncing around/having weird smells/getting terrible mileage/constantly pouring money into it to fix things, my wife and most of my friends/family do not. I certainly don't see enough people out there today who want something like the XJ for Jeep to think about making one. I have a 2wd Tacoma (Racing Edition) that we use for family trips and have been considering buying the new Cherokee for the wintertime/gravel roads/easy family trips. I would still keep my XJ of course. I will probably wait for a few years till they get all the kinks out and then buy one.
I also agree that forums have gotten much worse recently.. not enough to get me to sell my Jeep but worse all the same. I have a ton I could say about that but will refrain. I will say that it does seem to me that all facets of the internet have gotten worse since spreading to younger and younger generations.
To the OP, I do not know of any aftermarket parts. I know they already make some for the Nissian Juke so if you do get one, It will probably only be a year or so.
