Technically not correct as the S-10 Blazer came out a full year before the Jeep. However they didn't have a four door until 1991, but as far as Mid-size (they were actually classified as compact) SUVs...Chevy was first. In fact, Jeep originally was only going to do a 2 door, but Chevy's introduction is why the 4 door was added. That is why they are so tight (short) for a four door. They didn't have time to re-engineer a longer chassis/body (like GM did for the four door).

I'm one of the loyal jeep heritage guys and all i can say about the "NEW CHEROKEE" is I absolutely hate its existence. ITS NOT A JEEP ITS FIAT CRAP
Jeep is dieing out, the only thing left is the wrangler and that is very slowly becoming junk too.

Then I don't see the need for an expensive vehicle with poor road handling (compared to modern coupes and sedans) and something that is too expensive for me to want to throw into a rock pile. I have no "Cherokee allegiance" past I own one, but I can never understand putting a fresh new vehicle through its paces offroad.
If you're fine with denting up a 35k truck, go for it! Someone's gotta bash the **** out of it, right? For that kind of cash, I'd just rather race motocross.

Yup frame, with complicated (compared to a straight axle) IFS, and until the Vortec 4.3, terribletastic engines (4.3 isn't that great either), and less ground clearance than the XJ.

Yes, it was body on frame still. So if you go by "unibody" definition, then yes, you would be correct, it was first. In that regard the XJ was quite a bit ahead of its time. Granted that unibody was mostly just the body welded directly to the frame, not the complex panels and pieces found in modern times (with crumple zones and the like.

Hey we made a break through!! Lol but in all honesty we have shown there were better options for the money, heck even a cheap xj can become crazy awesome with 30k put into it, so why did you choose the kl? We've shown there are more pros on an xj, jk, etc... Than the kl. so why?

Not dying out, simply the progression of time. Get use to it. Hell, before long you won't even drive your own car on the highway. It is PROGRESS.

If you want to get to like minded people, try:
http://jeepcherokeeclub.com/
A better site probably than this one. Just a bunch of whiners here (well, there are some good folks here, but obviously a lot of whiners too).
