just a baby...
Yesterday my daughter and I purchased a 1996 jeep Cherokee sport. She is in love...and so am I. My concern is the gauges don't work. Is there an easy way we can try to fix this. Also is there any way I can see if it was ever serviced for any of the recalls that were made on that year? We bought it from a relative of the 2nd owner who had had it for 12 years but got very little history on it. It's super super clean but the gauges worry me and the brakes are kind of weird...both issues I noticed had recall issues. Any help would be great. This jeep has already converted two very loyal dodge girls.

Here is a link to finding out the status of your vehicle as far as recalls go. I've got a '96 also. Only recalls are for a rear seatbelt issue and a catalytic converter issue. Click on "recall information" in the "your vehicle" box and insert the last 8 characters of your VIN. GOOD LUCK to ya.

Forgot about the no gauge issue. I've had no problems and even switched to a gauge cluster panel. Seems I've read about a bad ground issue that could cause the gauges not to work. Maybe do a search.

For the cluster here is a way to check it out very cheap but may require some work.
1-Check fuses
2-Pull cluster out and check recepticle on back of cluster
3-Check ground wire for continuaty
Gives you a few places to look without spending a lot to any money at all. If the ground wire is in fact bad make a jump wire off the existing wire to a tested good ground. Never assume a bolt on the body and or frame is a good ground. Always check them with a multi-meter. Hope this helps.
