I'm thinking about trimming my wheel wells instead of lifting real high, I would like to keep it lower for DD and wheeling. I like the look of your flairs but I would like to know how many inches of added clearance the trimming and flairs gave you over stock?

most people will cut not a whole lot out of their fenders, but then u got those guys who cut and fold the hell out of thier rear quarter panels. long story short its all personal prefference. good luck man.

What I need to know before I start is how many inches can be removed by trimming the fender? Cutting and folding wont be a problem but I don't want to do any welding of the wheel wells or body. I'm trying to figure out if I can run 33x12.50 15s on a 2dr xj with a three inch lift with good use of bump stops and not screw up the body.
I haven't a clue as to whether I can trim 2 inches or 5 inches and still be able to put the flairs on so it looks OK.

i have a 94 2 door on 33 12.50 15 with 4 in of lift. in the rear i just cut up to the wheel well on the inside and folded the tabs in. on the front i took a Sharpe and traced the stock fender flare and cut there. don't hit the fenders anymore just the inside of the wheel well in the front. this is the only pic i can find with both cut

the front you can trim away as much as you want

the rear is the problem, when you pop off your flairs you will notice the pinch seam were its spot welded together if you trim above that line your inner and outer sheet metal wont be connected, so most people do the cut and fold but it only gains you about 1"-1-1/2" of extra clearance
i have seen XJ with 3" lifts running 33"s with just this trimming but your gonna have to bump stop it correctly
