Default Installing a skid plate on my gas tank

I recently bought a 97 xj for spare parts, what really caught my eye was that it was the country edition. The first thing I want to do was take off both skid plates and put them on my 88. However I want to know if they will fit before I go through the work. Any ideas? I would like to upgrade my 88.

The gas skid wont work without a lil modding I believe. The newer model XJs have a plastic tank while your 88 has a metal tank and the size is a lil different.

I heard that but it looks like my 97 has a metal tank though, maybe it has some pre 97 stuff. I know it has pre 97 door hinges

1997 should have a plastic tank. If your going to get a gas tank skid buy a good one like the one JCR offers, I slammed my Gas tank skid down on a boulder last weekend an it did great despite some rock rash on it now.

It does have a plastic tank, and I already have the skid. What has anyone had to do to theirs to make it fit?

A pre 97 skid will work. I have a 96 skid on my 99. I had to put a jack under the skid to hold it in place, then i tacked along the skid to the frame to hold it on. The bolt holes dont line up but im sure if you marked and drilled new holes, you could bolt it up.

I found my skid in the back of a 96 xj at the junkyard so im not 100% sure thats what it came off of but i do know it didn't fit properly so i assumed it came off of the 96. Its nice to have but i wouldn't be dropping it on rocks to hard.
