I love cops!
I work for one of the largest Police equipment supply chains in the US, I deal with more officers across the country than most people will ever see in their life.
Yes, there are officers out there that think they are God's gift to us all, but no more than there are in any profession.
Most people don't encounter officers in plesant situations, and because of this they don't always realize they are indeed being "********" themselves.
I think this is where the bad reputation has developed, that, and the training they receive to make them as neutral and official as possible. Sometimes officers can be taken as being "harsh."

I think people have bad views towards police officers for 2 reasons. 1) They were breaking the law and got caught so they're pissed, or 2) They had one bad experience with a power hungry officer and are now pissed. I've been in both situations - the power hungry one almost got me a night in jail for going 4 over the speed limit - but in all reality, the majority of police officers are good, respectable people.
Alright plenty of people hate them but I have to say one thing, they're ****ing awesome.
I locked my keys in my XJ at school today due to the fact that I was in a hurry and I really wasn't paying attention. When I noticed my keys weren't in my pocket, I started walking back to my jeep. As that happened; a lifted dodge ram literally ran over and destroyed the front end of a Neon (not BSing it happened and it was a Holy S*** moment). The sheriff came and while he was writing a report, I walked over and told him how I couldnt get into my Jeep. He helped me break into my XJ using a police lockout kit and he was out in the cold helping me for about an hour until we finally fished my keys through a small crack in the upper door frame. The saying "to SERVE, and protect" is definitely true, I'm glad there's officers out there that are willing to help others and their community as a whole! I didn't need to call a locksmith so he even saved me money!

glad you found a nice one! few and far between, but i respect what they do. Also next time, depending on if you have power windows or not, if they have the long stick thing just pry the door open and use it to roll down the window. I had to get a guy to get my keys out and thats the only way we could do it ( wish we would have tried that first cause it was the easiest way!)

Could you Imagen this country WITHOUT cops...
it would be mess... they keep order, and we need them.
The bad ones we could do without, but for the most part
every officer ive ever encountered has been very nice.
well except that time in elementary school when i was blamed for
beating up a kid that i helped avoid the kids who wanted to jump him.
... that was kinda annoying.

In policing we see people at their worst. We are trained to be very fundamental and routine in the way we do our job and must treat every person as if they have a gun or are a potential threat. This is why we approach any vehicle and person as if they could be armed. Its nothing personal it is just for our safety. Sure there are bad cops just as there are bad accountants, fast food workers, waitresses, etc. but in my experience there are more good then bad. I'm still young by most standards but I was a kid once and I've done stupid things just like anyone else. If I can get my point across and prevent someone from getting hurt and maybe make them think twice before they do the same thing again, then I would prefer to let them off with a warning. Everyone makes mistakes.

Most cops i've encountered have been respectable. I've been pulled over quite a few times, too. I don't have a problem with most of them, they're just doing their job. I've been pulled over with a suspended license (I was unaware it was suspended) and all the cop said was "just take care of it", so of course the next day i went down to the court house and took care of it. I've also been pulled over for being a complete idiot doing 90 in a 55 without my drivers license on me. I was completely honest with the cop, as I always am and he let me off with a verbal warning. I've also been pulled over in a car with a completely shattered windshield, while speeding, talking on the phone & headphones in my ear (radio was broken). Same thing, got a written warning. The most important things i've learned from being pulled over are: be respectful, and honest. Can't say i "love" them. But I don't have a problem with them either.

I couldn't even get out of a 75 in a 65 when I was being as nice as possible..
I do have to say I live in a small "richy" suburb of Cleveland about 4 miles long (along the lake with multi million dollar houses and no I am not rich at all my parents moved to an average house for the great schools)
I was sitting in front of a small salon waiting for a GF to get out of work at about 8:30-9 PM and have had a cop come up behind my car shining his spotlight at me, call a second car, and turn on there lights to cause a scene and start questioning me.. Well I tell them what i am doing, and he asks to search my car I tell him sure I got nothing to hide and he asks me to step out and starts searching, while the other cops goes into the store to ask the manager if she was really working etc..
Obviously my story checked out, and about a month later, same exact thing, with calling a second car. Lets say from this point I always waited in the store with her from that point on.
As well as last night driving home at about 11:30 from a friends house, a cop starts to follow me and I don't care I am not doing anything wrong again and he follows me for about two miles until I get to the neighboring city thinking he was done, well nope he continues to follow another mile or so even in another city...
And I have plenty more, and I have never had an issue with any other cops other then the ones from this city, where most think they are god...
And I am still trying to figure out why we need a modified excursion with huge front bumper winich etc. as well as a expediton and about 3-4 unmarked cop cars in a city thats about 4 sq. miles, all residental except for a few soccer fields..
