How to take off roof rails on 01 cherokee

Default How to take off roof rails on 01 cherokee

My buddy and I are having a hard time trying to to the cross rails off to put a roof rack onto my cherokee. we tried taking the end cap so off the rails and had no luck, any ideas?

I think you take the end caps off the mounts and then slide the rails off.

do you know how to get the end caps off? That what we are trying to do and they haven't moved at all

Nope, it's impossible, I've been trying to get mine off for 7 years and they won't budge.

There is a torx head bolt that you have take out and then the end cap comes off. Slide rails out and put cap back on and bolt back in. Done. Stand on top of rear tire and look down onthe rails and you can see the bolts some may be in holes in the rail.

I tried putting my roof rack over the cross rails and it fit, roof rack has a little bit extra support with the rails under it.

Don't you have to worry about the weather seals when you remove those rail torx bolts?

I've heard they do nothing but leak water once you take them out once.

I just took the cross rails off and put torx back in. No leaks after 2 years or so.

Not wasted! You just had a challenging 7 years. Lol mine is also a 2000 model and may be different than yours.
