Getting started
I'm a high school student building an 88 XJ. It's a slow process because i don't have any family or friends that are seriously into jeeps. So what are some ways to learn more about cars and fabrication? Would I be able to get a job at a fabrication/customization shop with barely any experience? How did you get started working on jeeps without someone to show you how?

My high school offered automotive classes at a local college for free. It was some kind of partnership. I wish I had taken those classes.
As far as learning how to fix things, start off small and work your way up. The Internet has been a tremendous help for me. The first thing I learned was how to change the oil..then the oil filter adapter o rings...then the exhaust manifold...etc. good luck.

Click on the link in my signature. Perform the stuff outlined in posts 1,2,and 3. Some photos. If you want to post up photos as you go along, that's good too.
Any questions, post them up and we'll walk you through it.
Buy a cheapo multimeter for under $10 and have it handy.

Since you have an 88, here's something to get you started and familiarize yourself with the Jeep. Worthwhile stuff and it's mostly free.
