Default How much is it worth?

Hi,

I'm new to the forum so I apologize in advance if this has already been talked about, or it is in the wrong section.

I'm looking into a ford 8.8 axle 4.10/4.11 gears 31 spline with disk brakes. It came off of a 2000 explorer, and the dude is asking 450. I know you are all thinking that's its way over priced.

My question is how much do one of these normally run for? Thnx

The value will depend on your location. Here in Maryland, I picked up one just like that for under $200, and they sell all day long for less than $300.

I'm here in WA. I can't imagine it being that much more. Hopefully there's someone from WA that can chime in.

Well I'm from Oregon and those axles around 250 ish, my bet is just keep looking unless you really want that axle then go for it, it's only worth by how much you want

450 sounds high to me is it a random guy or a junkyard?

It's some random guy. I'm thinking about calling some of the pick a pull (junkyard) around here and do a price comparison.

450 is not bad if it was ready to bolt on, but straight out of an explorer with all the cutting and welding work that still needs to be done seems high IMO.

As said if its already setup for an XJ $450 isn't too bad still kinda high.

I can get any axle at the pick a part by me for about $180 after tax.

So I've been calling some of the junkyards around me, and all I can find are one with 3.73 gear with LSD or 3.55 non LSD.

Never realized how hard these are to find.

They are a popular swap axle for a lot of jeeps to the bronco 2.

So I ended up finding an 8.8, 4.10 gear, LSD with disc brakes, all the good stuff and all weld jobs done, ready to bolt up to my xj for 500. Some might say that's still all high but I'm happy.

Plus, I know it is in working condition because he is pulling off he's dd xj to sell to me. He's going with a different set up. 1.5 spacer included, and additional 140 I got a d30 Aussie locker.

Is Ford 8.8 really that good of a axle?

It's good because it's relatively easy to find, pretty strong, pretty inexpensive, big aftermarket, just about the right width, and the same bolt pattern

Plus disc brakes, steeper gearing (up to 4.10s), and the potential for limited slip.

Since I was rebuilding the rear axle, might as well rebuild the front.
