My 2000 XJ has 208,000 miles and still running great. The 1998 has 192,000 and still running good. Both are DD's but the 98 sees a lot of trails and such

My 97 has 211k on it with the original motor. My old 91 2 door had 325k on the original motor but a rebuilt 5-spd. I did blow one on my old 89 at 131k or so. Cleaned the sludge from the oil pan when I did the rear main seal. Blew a week later, it was weird. Also blew the 140k junkyard replacement the same week. Ran good in the wrecked one and had good oil pressure. Cleaned the pan and stuff before I put it in mine. I should have put an oil pump in it, 2 days after install I lost oil pressure and threw a rod. Lets say the new crate motor I installed got a actual gauge rather than the idiot light lol.

My 96 4.0 AW4 has 176,000 and gets driven by me in the morning and my wife in the afternoon. Double duty daily driver. Runs like a bat out of hell and even gets to hit the beach and trail once in a while. I got her from someone that drove her all the way from mass to san fran and they were the second owner. I have lived in 5 differnt places with her and she has moved my stuff each time I moved. I can get in her now and drive to alaska or south america.

I don't think the Radiators are worth much after 100k. If one goes pop, it can take the engine with it pretty fast. If in doubt I'd swap the rad, backflush, and keep on top of coolant changes.

I am LOOOOOOVING this thread. I may possibly be buying a 95' with 129k miles on it. Now that I'm seeing this, I feel a LOT more relieved buying this Jeep.

How long do 4.0s really last?

I've seen some people with 260k plus on their 4.0s, then I see others with new engines at 146k. What's the deal? Is it different for each motor off the lot or is it a mixture of how you treat it and other factors like that?

i will let you know in 20 years lol

I think for the most part they last well over 200k. My 94' blew a head gasket and threw a rod at 150k. I was broke when it blew, cheapest thing I could find was one from a parted out 91' that had 225k on it for 120 bucks, but the kid swore he kept up on the maintenance. I've put another 15k or so on it and I drive with my foot to the floor often.

Do you know why it blew so early?
