How long did it take?
I bought mine on a whim. it literally took a 15 second phone call. I ended up with a 97 2dr, 4wd, c825, np231, no options except power mirrors, red with tan interior, 129k mile (1 owner) state owned jeep the next day.
I wasn't in PB, nope. I don't get out that way too often actually. Is that what part of SD you're in?
Ok Brooks you got her now give us all the details, How you found it, Cost, Mileage, the whole story buddy... I guess you settled for 2 door cause it was either a good deal or you just couldn't wait!

Thanks man! Appreciate that. She is pretty clean indeed. Not perfect though. The paint kinda looks like it was in a sandstorm or something. Thousands of tiny little scratches everywhere, and some sun damage on the roof, but I'm not worried about that, if I care about it later I'll just save up and have her painted!

I got lucky and found a stock '89 XJ after about a week. Fairly common around military posts, honestly. Speedo cable was out, stereo/speakers all gutted out, and some fairly minor problems here and there. Snagged it for $1250. Good luck in your search, man.
I didn't know about the NAXJA meetup! I love Obriens though so I'll have to look more into that. I live in El Cajon myself, work in Santee.
OK so the beans... it's a 99 XJ, about 176k on the clock. Engine is super clean, one prior owner, has been in CA it's entire life, not a spot of rust on the body. paint isn't great, but I'm not worried about that. The interior looks BRAND NEW. Has d30 front, d35 (gonna fix that) rear. NP231 t-case. Paid right at about $5k for her (may have been too much, idk, I was excited, anxious, and fell in love on the test drive). Has power everything, has the ceiling console thingy... what am I missing... oh I got it in L.A. from a dude who buys at auctions (this was a Carmax trade-in auction). Ultimately I think I did pretty good. I'm happy with it so that's what matters most to me. The wife and dog love it too!
I gotta say I'm amazed at just how much power and torque this thing puts out after 15 years of use. Really Awesome, but that leads in to my first set of things I'm doing.
I've ordered new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, k&n air filter, and an oil pressure sender. I also have floor mats on the way to help keep it clean inside. I'll pick up oil and a filter next weekend right before getting to work.
I'm waiting to service the differentials till after I source the c8.25 or d44 to drop on the rear. Anyone have any clue what a JY c8.25 or d44 rear axle would run for this?
Sorry if any spelling or grammar are screwed up, I'm on my cell phone and half asleep lol.

That's awesome. Sounds like you made a good deal. If I were betting, I would say you could probably make the paint pop again with a paint correction (assuming you're interested in bringing the paint back to life). My paint was okay when I bought it and I was amazed at how good it turned out.
Remember how I said my Jeep is all over my garage right now? I'm swapping my 29 spline 8.25 for a 8.8. I actually just listed it for sale on here last night. Man, I wish I coulda found an axle that easily! Haha let me know if you're interested. It won't be done for about a week or so.

I like the 2 doors and that black is going to make a bada$$ looking toy for ya! Glad you found one, I looked for about 8 months, even considered flying out of state to go get one if I had found the right one, then this one popped up on craigslist 25 miles away 2 weeks ago!
Currently working on my f-350, but after that I will start tinkering with the XJ.
