Re-adjusting after the German Autobahns is difficult. Changing from 120mph MINIMUM to be in the outside lane to back in the UK caused a lot of frustration with the 85mph queues we have. In Germany you have to be very aware of what is coming up behind you because it could quite legally be doing 200mph and to get into the inside lane you have to brake to 60mph because all the trucks are limited to 100kph.
In the UK I drive bang on the limits in towns/villages and whatever I feel comfortable with in open country. In the Jeep that's very rarely above 70mph.

Wipeouts tend to give you a better respect for speed and are the number one cause of clearer thinking on it.
They are also a good experience in a way (if no one is seriously hurt) ...they give you a little more insight into what happens in a full out accident...that can help you if similar future situations arise.

I haven't driven on ice yet, so i can't say anything about that. I have 21 winters with snow under my belt, though, and I know what happens. I've dug and pushed my share of cars, and I don't want to be one of them. From the time it starts snowing here until I get accustomed, I'll be driving as cautiously as I did when I first started.

10 over - but around here doing 10 over will cause you to pass some people as if you are doing 50 over because they are idiots and are doing 20 under.
Been driving over 20 years and have never had a point on my license.
EDIT: I spent 20 years of my life in Frederick MD. I assure you that the MSP and the local officers don't take kindly to excessive speed - especially on 15, 340, 270 and 70.

When I first got my Jeep I was pretty careful until I learned what it could and couldn't do. after that I was drifting around every turn in it lol. on highways I would normally do 85, had to set the cruise to keep me going farther over.
I kinda understand how you could 100+ without knowing it. anyone who's ridden a motorcycle has this problem -.-
My speeding ended after after I got mine lifted and locked.... the 4.56 gears really did a number on my top speed

I drive as fast as the road and conditions permit.... not what DOT decided to post.
On roads like Route 9 Ill go 60-65 in my jeep (50 -55 mph speed limits) and slow down to 40 through the residential areas... however in my parents Impala Ill go 70 -75 and occasionally reaching 80 or more just coasting down hills.
On I95 in my Jeep I go 60 -65 and rarely 70 (55 and 65 mph speeed limits), but again I go faster in the Impala...speeds of cruise at 80 -85.
On Route 1 I go 5 -8 over in my Jeep, typically 5.
During the winter I go below the speed limit at all times.
If its at night I typically go at or under the speed limit in the Jeep because of animals, and the Jeep's poor headlights.
If its at night and raining I go speed limit or below, because I personally have problems with headlight glare.
Its all about the conditions and vehicle. If its dry, visibility is high, and low traffic most roads can be safely traveled well above their posted dpeed limit.
But to OP I suggest trying to limit yourself to 80 -85...
And to whoever posted about getting in an accident changes the way you drive that is very true...
I admit I drive VERY slow on dirt roads now, and pay more attention to my speeds wherever Im driving...

The thing is I wasnt going over 30... which is really not a fast speed, but it was faster than the conditions allowed and I paid the price.
I was uninjured besides my mental anguish (borrowed car from my parents), but It made me think if this is what happens at low speeds what will hapen at fast ones.
