I guess my horror story was when I was in my driveway and pulled my rear driveshaft without setting the parking brake.

Quite a wake up call as it ran right over me. Safety is always first now

Yesterday I was about to start welding my rear wheel wells when I noticed the jeep was leaking gas

I had just replaced the switch on the transfer case that turns the part time light on and off and I forgot to grab my $10 flashlight, which was sitting on top of the t-case. Soon as I left the driveway it fell, wedging itself between the t-case and the drive shaft and it managed to crack the t-case right down the side.

That sucks man!

My horror story would have to be when I blew a freeze plug cruising down a back mountain road. All of my coolant drained out before I even realized what happened. I overheated the engine pretty badly trying to get it out of the way (there was no shoulder on the hill). Fixed the freeze plugs by replacing with brass, redid the cooling system, and has been running great since (knock on wood)

The first time some ***wad turns right on a red in front of you and you have to avoid hitting them, you'll know. The first time you encounter a 6x6 in your lane on the freeway, you'll know. The first time a kid or a deer darts out from behind a car right in front of you... you're getting the idea.

The sway bar is designed to absorb the transfer of energy from one side of your truck to the other. When you heavily load one side like you would in an [involuntary] evasive maneuver and then quickly correct, the sway bar absorbs the energy that would otherwise be transferred to the opposite side. No sway bar and all of that kinetic energy is passed straight through. Everybody has these moments at one point or another and the sway bar is there to protect you and those around you. Some day you will have a horror story to tell and you'll remember this thread as you slide down the highway on your roof. Explaining the missing sway bar to your insurance adjuster will be the least of your worries. Go buy quick disconnects and be safe.
Damn near rolled mine once when an **** hole jambed his brakes on in front of me to keep from running over a cat in the road. Had to do the no-no double swerve to keep from hitting him. The bars saved my **** that day.

Yep, there's a few threads around about them. What are you looking to do? I wouldn't say freeze plugs are an item of preventative maintenance. More of a fix-it-if-it-breaks-or-is-leaking type of deal.

Never get tired of the old sway bar argument. LOL

True story. Was doing 55mph in my cj with 5in of lift and 38" dick cepeks with no swaybars at night.

Car backed right out in front of me Jerked the wheel to the left(passing lane) Wrecker heading straight at me Jerked the wheel back to the right and managed to keep from rolling and missing both vehicles.

Driver skill trumps swaybars any day of the weak. Whether good or bad skills

You do realize how invalid that story is right?!?!? CJ have leafs all around. Most leaf rigs really don't need away bars but anything with a linked suspension does. Reason why most say ditch the rear but keep the front. Now try doing that in a tj or something similar with linked suspension all around and I can assure you the pucker factor will go up 100 lol
