So i am going to go with this one:

If i move the air intake to under the cowl do you think enough cold air will get to it to make a difference?

That's a big *** cowl.
Are you gonna mount it in the center of the hood?
What about the indented portion of the XJ hood?
I think I'm gonna go with 2 rider scoops like Tom and have them paint matched to my jeep.
Then just cut ünder them

yeah its big lol but i like the bigger center one better than two smaller ones. just personal preference. and it is going to cover the indent. its long enough where it will cover the whole thing front to back. and im gonna paint to match as well. good luck with your build man.

A forward facing scoop won't do any good to cool the engine bay. Or get air to the intake due to the position of filter inlet.
You'll be better off with 2 small scoops with the opening facing the windshield.
I got these for 25.00 for the pair off eBay. My XJ never went above 195* while wheeling all weekend in Moab when I was on the trails for 6-7hrs a day.

and I dont think moving the intake closer to the headers is going to work. plus, all the hot air will be pushed out through that cowl vent. you want to try to suck some of that back up and run it through your engine again?

I'll be ordering this when I get money,I can't weld and I'm looking for the most cost effective way
I'll cut a hole under it and face it to the cowl, should look smooth.
It would look nice close to the windshield, and pour heat out since its 20" wide
