Default Hollow sounding engine knock!!

I have a 98 grand Cherokee with engine knock. I have removed the inspection cover on the bell housing and checked the flex plate for tightness or crack. Saw none. Any ideas anyone!

Sounds like it's coming from drivers side around exhaust cross over area

I would double check the flexplate, they like to break around where it bolts to the crank. Does it make noise at idle? A rod knock usually shows up at 1500-2000rpm with no load on the engine.

The sound seems to be there but very faint and as I bring the rpms up it gets louder. When i checked the flex plate all the bolts where tight, but I could not see the bolt area around the cam, is there a trick? I also ran it and watched the flex wheel spin at idle and it doesn't wobble, it seems to run true! I did notice that my manifold is cracked clear through at the cross over

That just might be the problem.

I'm having it welded (hopefully) tomorrow, looks like a clean break no rust. Cross my fingers. Thanks for the help
