Default Here's my $140 roof rack.

So I got bored and decided to build a roof rack. 80 feet of 3/4" emt conduit, some 1/8" steel and c-channels for the mounts and 4 cans of rustoleum bed liner.

It's not perfect. There's a couple of risers that aren't exactly 90 degrees and it sits to the driver side maybe 1/2" but it's my first time building anything.

Here's a better pic of the mounts. just used a 110v mig with .025 wire. It's not very heavy. I can set it on the roof by myself. Maybe 40-50lbs

Thanks, in hindsight I should have went 1-1.5" wider, but it's done now. I may be in the market for a super clean xj in a few months. If I end up getting one I'll do another a little different, a little wider and get a tubing notcher to do the joints better.

Question

So, you just bought a bunch of 3/4 tubing, bent it up and welded it? How much was the material and how did you do the bends?

Thanks!

3/4" conduit, I bought the pre-bent 90 degree elbows, and on the joints where those weld onto the straights, I hammered a piece of pipe maybe 2-3" long that was a tight fit into the conduit then slid the elbows over that, that way it made it a little more rigid instead of welding conduit to conduit.
