just bought a 4 door 4.0 5 speed 1991 sport. No rust in rockers door or drip rails. Do have rust in trans tunnel and alittle under he battery box I pulled the rear carpet because it was very wet and found more rust the rear package area is riddled with rust holes no rust on wheel wells and no rust under the seats I’ve never messed with jeeps at all and want you guys opinion before I start cutting a Jeep that shouldn’t be saved

well it seems that the only rust in the Jeep in from the carpets getting wet and the insulation mat under never drying out I’ve never had a Jeep so I’m not sure what is structural and what is just floor pan

Post some pics maybe?

I bought another XJ recently knowing of the rust on the front floor pans and trans funnel. I couldn’t pass it up given the overall condition of it, being rather excellent. For me the rust was just another bargaining chip.

Im absolutely convinced these are easy fixes and will be doing the same to mine.

Look into some 120v - 140v flux core welders, cheap and all you need. Pretty easy to operate. Floor pans from Quadratec and maybe a couple scrap pieces of sheet metal. Clamps and paint for a nice fit and finish.

pretty much everything under there regarding body panels should be safe to remove/replace aside from full sections of the frame rail.
