Default Help! Something is wrong with my jeep

So yesterday I took my 2000 Cherokee out to the wash, and was using 4h and at ones point was in 4l. afterwards it felt a bit wierd, when I turned it off it vibrated alot so I turned it back on and was vibrating. This morning I turned it on and it was fine. I drove it to work and sat for a few minutes and it felt like something engaged and then it started vibrating and making a kind of rattling noise. What could be the cause?

Running 4Lo on asphalt at speed can screw up your transfer case. You don't even need to be driving speed limit to tear up the t-case when engaged in 4lo.. 4lo is not made for dry road, 4hi shouldn't be used for dry road either, and running it at too fast of a speed 45 -55 mph can damage the t-case.

From what you describe there is internal damage to the t-case, could be damage to the chain or other parts.

Let me know what you find just my .02

(Forgot to mention, how bad is the vibration at idle? And is your's a manual? Cus sometimes when it get's hot it will start vibrating a little like its engaged.) I know this cus my tranny has 178,000 miles on it and after driving for an extended period of time it will start doing this.. Though I have also noticed this with my other cherokee which is auto where after extended period of driving it will vibrate at idle...

Its Auto. I only used 4l on some crawling, and just used 4h in the wash where it was deep sand.

Were you vibrating when moving or when sitting? Are you describing engine or drive train vibrating. Does it vibrate in 2H? Mechanical clutch fan on the motor can vibrate like crazy when the clutch mechanism and bearings are failing. Are there more details available for us to help.

mine vibrates at idle when it's hot and then when I take off it will smooth out after 30mph and wont do it Till idle again. The way I see it, I have a jeep. it still going straight between the lines so i didn't worry bout it. but if it is really bad, like unbearable, then it's prolly alot worse and prolly a t-case problem. in interested to see what it Is though because I'm still in the learning stages of xj's.

Turns out, it was my radiator fan. Its pretty beat up, and only had one clip left holding it on, so when it kicked on after about 15 minutes it was vibrating hard core. I took it out and haven't had the problem since. Im currently just using my after market fan in front of it, and not really driving till I get the new fan in on Tuesday
