I'm looking for threads where people recessed lights into the rear hatch door. I know I've seen posts both for backup lights and a really cool set where somebody put some on the inside for when the hatch is open. I'm not sure why I haven't found these with all the words I've used to search...any help? Anybody done these mods that can post up?

Not seen it, but it doesn't sound like it'd be too horribly hard. Remove the inner liner and you have access to the backside of the sheet metal, cut a few holes, mount the lights, viola.

 

This is what I'm thinking-I'm just hoping to see some pics and maybe get a tip I didn't think of already, etc. I'm probably gonna put the backup lights in the bumper because I also want them to be able to flood the area behind the Jeep for whenever we have to set up camp at night, etc. and would have the hatch open. Lights up top would be somewhat blocked by the open gate, lights inside the gate would point straight down, lights outside the gate would light up the sky....LOL..I may do all three just to cover every base!

 

OK, I'm gonna go the bumper route. I have all the stuff gathered and when I have time, I'll get 'er done with pics!

I am working on mounting lights along the top of the rear hatch area. They mount to the rear headliner trim and can be angle to point straight out the back window, straight down, or any angle in between.

 

I still can't find the thread, but I found a picture that was similar to the one in the thread.

 

YES! Those are the lights in the inside hatch that I was thinking of! I keep going back and forth on where I want to put the lights..even thinking maybe I'll just put 'em all over! Of course, I'll need the music from 'Close Encounters'..LOL!
