I could run 70 mph and not have a bit of woggle or bounce, only made a little noise. Now on a wet road.... It was sorta scary.

can they be balanced after you do this or do you not worry about that offroad use only?

They dont need to be balanced for offroad. I wouldn't advise using a re grooved tire on the road, not the safest

My brand new 38s aren't balanced, mounted them in the driveway, but you might be able to. At the point this tire was I wouldn't use it on the street anyway. I know lots of folks that run grooved tires on the road, and pretty much all 18 wheelers do. Keep in mind you can't really do this with a radial, at least not as deep as I went. Grooving is kind of a southern thing, we have a Tennessee cut, Aetna cut (it's a mountain close by look it up on youtube) and several others, but it's pretty much always done on TSLs or Boggers due to the thick carcass they have on the bias tires. You can sipe any tire and people do it to help with wet conditions and it's simular to grooving but you don't go anywhere near as deep and it's usually a very thin cut on the lugs.

I guess I have driven to the trail on cut tires. But I wouldn't really use them on a dd. But thats just me. Im not even a fan of any bias tire on the road really. I tried to use a set on my dd YJ and I think they got flat spots on them just sitting over night. Then it was a very rough ride in a light jeep.
