Gas Theft Prevention
Does anyone know a manufacturer/retailer selling technology, like plates, which guard your gas tank from being drilled?

I already have a lockable gas cap. However, I need something to protect the tank. With prices surging and only getting higher, more of this kind of theft is prone to happen. And it hasn't and won't stop people from putting holes directly into your tank to extract your cash. Simply put, a locked cap is not sufficient today and could easily be picked as well.

keep a 2x4 near for security purposes. i think a skid plate would be fine as it takes a lot to drill through and ull hear someone drilling and can stop it

A skid plate would make for a nice deterrent, however, I saw on Google somewhere that there's a Land Rover parts & accessories retailer/supplier selling such technology to completely safeguard the tank. Was wondering if Jeep has anything similar.

It was a major crime wave here in California the last time gas went way up in price. The thieves would crawl under trucks and SUVs with plastic fuel tanks and drill a hole in them and collect the gas. The dealers loved it because they sold a lot of tanks and labor to replace them. I heard one story where a guy crawled under a motorhome and drilled the wrong tank. He got a shower of sewage instead of gasoline, serves him right.

I bet he felt like a jack *** not only after drilling the wrong tank but then getting caught by the police covered in it. Haha.
I'd kill myself if I were him.

Besides a skid plate I don't think there is much else you can do. Maybe put some sort of thick cloth type mat between the skid and the tank... when they drill through the skid it catches the mat and tangles up the drill bit... I dunno...

Did anyone miss where he said plastic tank? Do XJs even have plastic tanks? I can't see someone drilling thru a metal tank with any degree of quiet. Consider also that drilling a metal tank will generate heat & cause sparks ... gas+heat+sparks go BOOM! I'd rather opt for improving my insurance coverage!

a fuel cell is really the only way to completely make sure no one can get into your tank. but if someone is really that desperate to get your gas what prevents them from breaking your window to get into your cell????
