Lol, prolly wont happen in a month silly! Its not like your driving with no oil! It happens over time, like example, my grand cherokee, I let my ex put these big tires on it k, it looked great, ran it that way for i dunno couple years, but because something to do with the gears, it makes a funny noise, and prolly need a new drive axel, shaft whatever its called now. It didnt just happen in a month.

Maybe I should take your warning....then ask a jeep dealer mechanic his opinion on driving with it in full time all the time, I'm curious to see what they would say about it.

Pretty good idea, just hate to see a courious kiddo, with his first vehicle bummed out over something that coulda been avoided, that could possibly be costly, but I could be wrong... But always best to be safe the sorry right? And dont forget ya gotta post pics of your first ride man! ;-)

Forrest, a locker: stock from the factory most vehicles have an open differential. That means that the left and right tire are allowed to spin at different speeds. This aids in going around turns. What the locker does in either replace the spider gears (spider gears are what allow them to spin at a different rate) if its a lunchbox locker. Those lockers will rachet till they feel slippage then they lock and spin both tires at the same speed. The other kind of locker is a selectable locker such as an air locker or an e locker that replace the entire carrier. They also allow no slippage but only when you flip a switch to tell it to otherwise its just a normal open diff.

so...
4 full time is like an open differential, it can power front and rear wheels but allows them to turn at different speeds (when you turn a corner). It can be used anytime as there is no danger of damaging your transfer-case. 4 part time locks your axles together. With it engaged on the street, turning will; wear your tires, make them hop and put stress on your transfer case. It is important to use part time in slippery conditions only.

and
4wd part time = front and rear axles locked together, ONLY for use on loose or slippery surfaces

4wd full time = front and rear axles NOT locked together. Jeep's literature says this mode can be used any time, even on dry pavement since the front and rear axles are not locket together. Power distribution in this mode is Front=48% Rear 52% (I think I remember that correctly).
THIS is correct. 4FT can be used on any speed/surface at the cost of a little more gas. It's great for pulling out of junctions in a hurry, snowy roads etc.

4PT is just like 4HI on a 241 or Diff Lock on a landrover.
