I didnt mean it as in u were sayin they were wrong per say, my poor choice of words. Appologize. You posted a question, the guys above me gave you same answers, lol you can search all night and will get several different answers unfortunatly. Your best bet is to maybe google the owners manual that there will give the exact meaning of what its for, but you can pretty much trust what Talon and wiggles are tellin ya tho, pretty knowledgable dudes.

Listen to what those two told you, dont drive in 4hi all the time or 4part time all the time only when you need to.

i found the book with it listed in it, the 2 posts in the pic i attached of the old thread are accurate answers.

so...
4 full time is like an open differential, it can power front and rear wheels but allows them to turn at different speeds (when you turn a corner). It can be used anytime as there is no danger of damaging your transfer-case. 4 part time locks your axles together. With it engaged on the street, turning will; wear your tires, make them hop and put stress on your transfer case. It is important to use part time in slippery conditions only.

and
4wd part time = front and rear axles locked together, ONLY for use on loose or slippery surfaces

4wd full time = front and rear axles NOT locked together. Jeep's literature says this mode can be used any time, even on dry pavement since the front and rear axles are not locket together. Power distribution in this mode is Front=48% Rear 52% (I think I remember that correctly).

Thumbs up

also read that the 4full time is different then 4 High as it can be used any time, at any speeds, litterally anytime you drive you could leave it in Full Time...

the select trac on the xj was also a rather expensive option i also read.. hmm

thanks everyone, I can never stop learning new things,

Read this, then think about all you have read. Your jeep should last you a long time! With good up keep and not thinking you have a AWD always can have it in 4wheel drive, be nice to your jeep Nd she will be good to you.

I'm gunna have to take ya up on that last part, my uncle who has a 95 XJ has the full time and he's kept it in full time like forever and it is like perfect still, he just didn't know the difference with it n part time that's why I posted here ,,, also a lot of the grand Cherokees you can't take it out of full time, so thus it can't be bad to have it In all the time it just kicks like 3 mph off
