Question Full Time 4x4 vs. Part time 4wd

For those that have the SELEC-TRAC with the

2WD
4Part Time
4Fulltime
N
4LO

When would you use the fulltime vs part time, what is the difference between the part and full, wich is better for wheeling on rocks and loose gravel?

Full time is ok for paved roads where wheel slippage won't happen but part time is to be used ONLY on surfaces that will let the tires slip a little like gravel and dirt. If your offroad than use part time, if you on like a snowy road than use full time

The 4 part time only engages when the back tires start slipping. So loose gravel would be a good use for it. I have noticed while wheeling. 4 part time will only get me so far. Then I would have to go 4high or 4 low. Some would say the 4 part time is a waste. Therefore they swap out the 242 tcase and put in the 231. I actually like my 242 and my auto. Just can't get a sye, but you can h&t it.

Had a 95 grand cherokee, and if I remember right, it had this. And I recall using full time when we had our first snow, and used partime when weather was bad on the mtn. So it was kind of like how my ex explained to me, the traction would automatically do the switch when it felt the difference on the surface or something to that effect. Or he coulda just been blowing smoke up my ***..... Lol but I used as he told me being it was my first jeep and I never had an accident or slipped off the road in it.

so the part time is more like AWD?

so full time is the better option bc its actual 4wd all the time? more like a locked in 4wd?

Not entirely. Only when on slippery road conditions it would be Awd. Then on dry road its still Rwd, but the lever says 4part time.

Here is the visor sticker that my jeep is missing, the wording makes it sound like the full time is more like awd, ( because ive learned your not supposed to use "4 wheel drive" at highway speeds or you can wreck and all that...
