This morning while in town my Cherokee started spitten and sputtering. I managed to get into a parking lot before it died. This ain't the first time this has happened. It's done it many many times. It vapor locks on me (heat soak). So I let it sit for a while, normally 30 to 45 min an I can go on with my business. Well it's still sitting in the parking lot. There is no fuel getting to the fuel rail. I moved around some relays thinking that might be it but that's not it. Is there a fues for the fuel pump or did I get that lucky and the fuel pump go out?

Can you hear the pump run when you cycle the key on off?

No I checked that. That why I'm thinking fuel pump but I wasn't sure if there is a fuse for it.

Thanks. Will it work with the fuel pressure regulator being on the pump in the tank.

Confirm the pump is getting a signal to run. Have a friend cycle the key while you probe the connector at the tank with a test light. One wire will be constant low voltage with key on, that will be for the gauge. Other will be a bright light for about 5 seconds when key is cycled to on position.

It's a replacement for the pump that's currently in your fuel pump module.

Ok. I'll check that when I go back tomorrow.

Ok. The one in the tank sits diagonally, it's not a top mount.

So this is just a small pump that can be changed with out dropping the tank. Best idea ever!! And it's a lot cheaper!
Just one thing that matters is how much fuel is in that tank.

2 gallons for sure. I walked to car quest and bought a gas can for $16 and put in 2 gallons.

I'm hoping I won't have to drop the tank all the way. I dropped it a few inches before to check vac lines. It looks like I can change it like that. Hopefully.

Tank don't need to be dropped at all, it's pretty easy to change the pump on earlier XJ's.
