Well got it home. I desided to charge the battery and see it it would start. After 15 min of trying to start it it finally started. It'll idle but if I try to rev it up it acts like it wants to die. I can let it idle for a min and it'll slowly rev up. I can surge the throttle real fast and it'll rev up some but it backfires through the intake.

I haven't had a chance to chech out the jeep. I started it this morning and it'll run. It won't rev up until it warms up but it takes a little persuasion to get it to rev up fast. I hate not having time to work on it. I miss the roar it has. It has turned many a heads and I'm asked all the time if it has a v8 in it.

I finally get to check this thing out. It started like it always does, turns over several times I stop then try again and after it turns a few more times then it starts. I backed it up on to the ramps and killed it. Popped the hood and unhooked the vac line that I connected together after i got it home last sunday bypassing the evap canister cause they peace that holds the vac line on the canister had bad cracks in it. When I un hooked them there was a yellowish liquid that came out the vac line. My first thought was gas but there's no smell and it doesn't burn. I can't get my hands on a fuel pressure gauge so I'm stuck on finding out what the pressure readings are.

I pulled the fuel filter off and shook it up really good and poured out the gas in a container and there is peaches of either plastic or rubber in it.

It's real brittle.

I finally got a fuel pump. Pulled out the pump assembly.

Is the part in the brown plastic the pressure regulator? There is not a pressure regulator on the fuel rail.

This is the whole thing.

Well I got it changed out and it runs like a new engine. No backfiring or spit and sputter when accelerating from idle. At high rpms there's no hesitation or lack of power.

After several hours, on several different days of playing around on my property, I do believe that fixed the prob of spittin an sputterin and backfirin and no heat soak/vapor locking. It runs so much better. The power that it has now is unreal. My son is really excited about it being fixed. He can't wait to go for a weekend camping trip, just me and him. Me, I can't wait to do to it what I've been wanting to do, 3" lift 31's 99+ intake 60mm bored tb and 703 injectors and ( if possible ) headers w/2 1/2" exhaust.

Well damn. Went out to play in the mud a little with my slick street tires and the problems are back. What the heck.
I'm assuming this is the fuel pressure regulator?

Here's a better look at it.

I hate it when the wife drives my jeep. She left it on empty, FREAKING EMPTY!!! That's why it did what it did.

Well here we go again. The fuel pump I bought was an airtex, yeah I know don't buy a airtex, but when your strapped for cash and you need a fuel pump whatcha gona do. Here's what happened. Sunday night it started cutting out the fuel gauge was flucuating big time then it died. When you first start it it acts like it wants to start but then just turns over. I'm going to change the fuel pump out on warranty for a better one. Hoping that's going to fix it. If its not that how can you tell if its the fuel sending unit.

Sounds to me like you've got dirt and rust in your tank from running the tank on empty or close to empty all the time. If the filter plugs up, the pump will have to work harder to pump fuel and will over heat and burn out.
Pull the pump and flush out the tank before replacing the pump, and make sure the in tank filter is clean and blow out the fuel lines.
This is what I had to do one time to solve a similar problem.

When I changed the fuel pump I checked the tank.theres no rust or trash in it. The filter is 6-9 months old. It had acted up a couple of times a few days prior to Sunday. I thought it might be the crankshaft position sensor from the way it was acting. It had somewhat of a dead miss in it when I was accelerating. That happened before and I changed that and it solved the prob. But now it's like it's not getting any fuel. I filled it up Friday and went 100 miles before it cut out on me. The fuel gauge is reason empty, that's why I'm wondering if its the fuel sending unit but the way it's acting when I try to start it makes me think its the fuel pump. That's why I'm wanting to change out the fuel pump for warranty first then if that's not it then ill change the sending unit.

I charged the battery up to make sure it was at full charge and started the jeep. It runs fine like nothing ever happened sunday night.

The fuel sending unit, will that affect the flow of the fuel?
