Default Front differential on 1999 cheerokee sport 4wd

The mount for my shock rusted out and when it dropped it caused a bit of damage to the front end suspension parts. I am not a mechanic or close to it. I have owned this vehicle since it was new and would like to hold on to it. I am thinkingg of purchasing a complete front deferential at the junk yard and having it installed. Is this the correct thing to do? Also, what do you think the cost of a job like this would be? Thanks for any advice.

That's probably the best thing to do. And since it's the junk yard, it will be reasonably priced. Not to mention, all the parts are already there.

On the other hand, if you have a shop re-weld mounts to your axle again, and then fix all the suspension parts, you're going to spend an arm and a leg for labor.

In my opinion, they should charge you less for labor to install a new axle because everything will already be in tact and all they have to do is bolt it on. No need for repairs.

You are looking for a High Pinion Dana 30 for the 1999 with 3.55 gearing.

You can install one fairly easily. I am not a mechanic but it only takes a couple hours going slow and careful. Keep in mind that one at the junk yard may need new ball joints/hubs etc and that will jack up a mechanics price quite a bit. It might be cheaper to get new mounts welded on at a shop depending on the damage that was sustained.
