Default Ford f150/bronco coils

I read all about people doing bastard packs etc and I know the f150/bronco coils provide around 4 inch lift but I never see anyone here who have that set up. I heard its more rough ride than other brands of coils, I can assume because its designed for heavier vehicles, but that don't bother me none. I am wondering about flex. Is it harder to flex with the coils, as seeing its heavier duty.

I am considering going down the ford coils/bastard pack route soon. Or should I just buy a 4.5 inch coils instead?

I know someone that used Dodge Dakota springs. He got about 5.5 inches of lift from it.

Ride quality was pretty smooth.

The leaf springs off the back, yeah.

We took coil springs off an old car in the Ford section, but it wasn't explicitly labeled a Ford. I forget what car it was.

Why jack around with wrong application front coils that ride like crap and don't flex. Check these out from Serious off road.http://www.seriousoffroadproducts.co...ings-XJ-MJ-4.5

I've never messed around with different application coils before but I saw somebody here awhile back say bronco coils will make you XJ ride like a dump truck and flex like a school bus.

Yea they are prolly cheaper but not worth it just to save like fifty bucks.

I'm about to put a set of 79 bronco coils in my XJ. I know full well that it is going to ride rough, but I will report on how they actually ride. I have read mixed reviews on it, mixed enough that I am going to try it and see how it goes. They are sitting in my shed collecting dust so I figure I will try it. Worst case scenario I'm out a couple hours of my time...

I have a feeling that a lot of the roughness has to do with the angle of the control arms, which it seems EVERYONE who is running 4+ inches on short arms complains about the rough ride... Just something to ponder. I will be ordering the bungs and joints for my long arms soon, so I will also be able to report on the ride then too.

Great. Keep us updated. I don't plan on lifting my xj until winter time (winter project) or at least until by next spring.

From what I can find (which is not much), the Bronco coils are around 300-325lb spring rate. and stock XJ coils are around 150lb. So it looks like the spring rate is literally doubled. I did find that a lot of XJ aftermarket lift coils are over 200lbs, with some as high was 240lbs (BDS).

I think it's going to be a rough, but tolerable ride. once I get the long(er) arms built and build a bumper for the front to hold a 12k winch, cage it, 2x6 rockers, and 1/4" stiffeners, I think it will be perfectly fine.

Yeah with all that added weight, the ford coils prob be good and smooth for you

My coils are close to 295 (progressive) and my rig weighs 5000lbs. Stiffer coils would suck, my front end is pretty damn planted.

As weird as this is going to seem, I didn't realize just how heavy thick steel really is until this morning when I had to move the back half of the Bronco frame across the yard. I cut it just behind the trans crossmember. It took just about everything that I had to flip it end over end to the trailer to haul it off. It's 2x6 C-channel, roughly 1/8 thick and all that is attached to it is the leafs. I'm a big guy (310 pounds to be exact) and I move heavy stuff on a regular basis (have bear hugged a 350 short block and carried it across the shop before) but this frame chunk was heavy!

I hope you remember to take off the coils before putting it on the xj lol. Maybe that bronco frame can help stiffen the unibody. Lol
