Default Fish Pole Holder??

Anyone make their own XJ fishing pole holder? I have two spin casting 6 foot rods. I fish a lot (Florida) and am tired of having them wear marks in my new headliner, and my wife is sick of getting hit in the head by the poles (fishing poles that is, lol)

Pics are a must. I checked out West Marine, and they have these $30/piece kayak style rod holders, but they stick out from the surface too much. Trying to do it for less than $60.

I made a custom wood one a year ago for my old jeep. It bolted to the roof on the inside and held the poles close the headliner and out of the way. I wish I had pictures of it and also wish I would have taken it out before selling the Jeep.

Put a self-tapping screw through a strap of velcro then thread the screw into the headliner trim. Do it again a couple feet away from that one and then strap your pole in there. $3

...but if that is a lame idea, don't h8. Phoenix is not a fishing hot spot and I don't go fishing anyway near often enough... Rookie-status

Could there be a way to mount them on the outside? Like on the stock roof rack? Usually when I fish it's short distances

You could duct tape them to your roof rack rails....or bungie cords...or velcro straps...or a piece of rope...or some fishing line. Get creative!

Already thought about the Velcro idea. Not an ideal fix. Looking for something I can put it in/on from the hatch and be done. I guess Velcro is better than having it bounce all over, but not what I want. I've though about using PVC. Cutting a notch out for the reel arm, and a grove for the handle itself. Then bolting it to the plastic overhead. Do they sell it in black so I don't look like a plumber? Lol. JK.

I don't have a photo of mine but its really simple, I use a 6' length of 8" black PVC, threaded on one end with a screw on cap and a cap cemented on the other end. It will hold a half dozen rods and reels. The longer rods are broken down before going in and if I'm using large reels deep sea and river fishing less or separate in a bag.

I use a small ratchet strap to hold this to my roof rack while traveling in my XJ and the WJ. When I park somewhere I pull it off (about 30 seconds) and lock it inside if going into a store or something. I wrap the reels in velvet my wife had left over from a sewing project and have some foam strips 2x2x6" and force it in between my more expensive reels.

I can't remember how much this cost as I made it a long time ago and used in my Motor Home also to protect them in the under floor storage. Just an idea I came up with a long time ago and have used with several of my 4x4's when going fishing. I like it because its out of the way when inside the Jeep and easy to secure when you need to lock it up.

That's a good suggestion Fred. I am looking to keep it inside (Keeping the reels on).

I can carry 5 rods and reels inside the carrier assembled, its just the big Penn reels that I have to remove if I carry over 2 of them.
