Default First cherokee!!!!!!

First cherokee!!! I am new to this forn but wanted some opinions. I picked up a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport a few days ago. I know that they are known for head cracking, but its head was replaced a few years ago. It is good shape and just needs a little work. I am wondering if I got good deal on it and what I should do to it. I am in high school so there is a budget. I only paid 3k for it and plan on putting some more light, underglow and some small bars. Thoughts?

Rock rails and skid plates if you plan on using it off-road. Other than that, whatever your heart desires. Personally, I don't care for the bullbar. A simple brush guard would look better and you could put a couple of lights on it. Also, put the stock air filter back on it and replace the fan shroud.

The hood would look great and cool better with some louvers in it. Check out Matt's Offroad Recovery on Youtube. He used Corvair deck lid louvers turned upside down on his and they look outstanding. He even tapped into the heater hoses and put an aux cooler and fan in one of them because he's out in Hurricane, Utah and needs all the cooling he can get. He runs his A/C all the time!

Having some oil pressure issues. The gauge sometimes reads 30 other times none and the check gauges light turns on. But the sending unit is relatively and the pump was replaced in 2019. Please help.

Verify the pressure with a mechanical gauge set up. Kit can be bought at Harbor Freight or someone here will let you know what parts are needed to do your own.

+1 to check and verify with a mechanical gage.
All it takes is a bit of crud before the sensor or poor conductivity at a connection and you will get wonky readings on the instrument panel.

Cool XJ. Just go ahead and set aside an imaginary car payment of 2-300 bucks. This way you always have some cash on hand to replace the 20+ year old things that have never been seen by a human since the factory.

There's a stigma about Rough Country and long-term durability/overall build quality. Some of it is heresy - some of it is a legitimate concern. The most common failures I've seen with Rough Country parts is their bushings and joints - but apparently they will just send you new bushings if you complain enough.

That and others have said the ride quality of their springs leaves something to be desired. I've personally never run their stuff so I don't know - I can only infer.

I had a Cherokee when I was in high school (15+ years ago) and it was the greatest thing ever. All the babes loved it lol. If I were you, I'd just do everything in my power to become a better driver (not saying you're not) to make sure that one lasts. I wrecked mine due to ignorance and a lack of experience behind the wheel.

Having some issues as the temperatures start to increase here in Jersey. I start the jeep starts right and is perfectly fine then as it heats up it starts idling rough and the rpms drop to like 500. I think it is a sensor but any input would be unhelpful. Also thanks for the help with the oil pressure issues.

Check to see if you don't have a faulty coolant temperature sensor. I've seen that be the cause of that type of issue for our XJ's before.

One way is to scan for code errors. You have a CEL (check engine light) on? Even if you don't I'd take it to one of your local parts stores. Some will do it for free.

Ok. I have a scan tool that I plugged in and the only code it is throwing is the throttle position sensor circuit is low. The code is p0122.
