Default Exhaust Leak

I tried oem tech already with minimal help, so figuring that its part chat i thought i'd try it here. If not chat, mods can move it, thanks. The other day i noticed an exhaust leak and found it to be coming from the flange at the cat and downpipe. So, i took a closer look at it and saw the flanges are pretty much rusted away (how did i not notice this before). Can i get new flanges welded on or am i going to have to get a new cat? And if i do need a new cat, what are the benefits of a magnaflow high flow cat over stock?

I'd sucggest just getting a whole new exhaust system. Either flowmaster or dynamax is pretty cheap. My theory is when stuff like thAt breaks why not upgrade it

THANK YOU! I've already got a cat-back and am on a budget. I'd like to get by for now with the minimal, but if i've got to replace i do usually upgrade too.

Well have you thought of just going to the jy or someone parting an xj out, and get what you need off of it.

In our shop I would have our man Shawn run it onto the hoist, zip cut saw the rot out, make a short connector with the pipe expander and mig weld it in at the seams. Where could you get that done in your area? Do you know anyone reputable and competant. You could pick up a ready flared adapter at an auto parts store, muffler and clamps aisle.

There's a muffler shop around here i've used before to make my cat-back. That's the place i planned on going.
