Alright so, I stripped the thread out on my yoke on my Chrysler 8.25 and found this write up on an easy fix. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/re...version-28141/ After buying the parts, I drilled out the holes in the yoke and put the new straps in but apparently it's to big and I can even put the nut or washer on. What now?

Is there enough meat on the yoke to relieve it so the nut will screw all the way on? and cut the threads down on the strap to make them shorter.
Is this a DD or Beater? LOL, if just a beater I would relieve the yoke a bit( if safe enough to do so) Grind down the nut edges so they are round, use channel locks to install 2 nuts on each side then tack weld them together. If I needed to take them off again I would cut them off. Sounds crazy.

Or replace the yoke.

The 8.25 came with 2 different versions of yoke. Compare your pic to the one in the write-up. Was this axle swapped in from a JY?

I hate to say it, but you may need to replace the pinion yoke.

not sure, I bought this XJ in October last year. So, if this is the wrong kind of yoke, what would my options be? New yoke?

Yea, or if you have a pick a part, pick and pull ETC.. near you.

So, could I just buy this new yoke and put my new straps on it right off the bat to keep from future bolt problems?

Yup. One yoke has a shoulder and the other doesn't. IIRC, one is slightly longer than the other, depending on which version it came off of. You can get one in a JY, or buy it new, but you may need to use the old strap method as opposed to the modded version, just buy new straps at the parts store, they come with new bolts as well.

This is the version of yoke you DON'T have...also keep in mind your going to have to replace the crush sleeve. To do this properly, the carrier needs to come out, so you can set the preload.

I don't believe so, but someone who knows more than I can chime in here. I went through this when I broke a pinion yoke on my 8.25. I noticed when looking for a new one there were 2 versions. I got the one that corresponded to the one I had. Kept it the same as what I had.

Also, are you comfortable with taking the diff apart and replacing the crush sleeve? If not, I suggest just taking it somewhere, you can have this turn into a REALLY costly mistake...

when taking the diff apart, will I have to check measurements with the ring gear too?
