Default DeVilbiss JGA 502 question

This is my very first time actually painting on my own... On my test panel today i got alot of orange peel...

here are the specs of what i am working with:

-DeVilbiss JGA 502 standard fluid tip(AV15EX), needle JGA 402 D-EX and cap (30)
-gun psi at 55
-4hp compressor 6.5 scfm at 40 psi 5.1scfm at 90 psi
-BASF LIMCO 1 stage black paint
-BASF LIMCO LR13 paint thinner
-BASF LIMCO LHS hardner
-panels random orbital sanded down to 320
-temp i am working in is 100*
-mixture is 8:4:1

Any ideas on why it is so orange peely? i attached pictures. The entire vehicle is sanded down and prepped for paint. But i dont wanna ruin the entire thing...

Turn down air pressure a bit and thin your mix a little bit more with reducer- painting at high temperatures causes the paint to flash way too easy.

Try 8:5:1 on a test panel other than your jeep, but do so with your pressure at 55 to start with and work the pressure down only if needed. What you are trying to do is thin the paint down enough to prevent it from trying to dry fog with the high heat !!

Shouldn't be , at any rate you can control the fan width and amount of material going on by moving towards or away from your panel, not to mention adjusting fan and material on the gun. At the temperatures your working in it will take some experimenting to to get the finish right. If you are concerned about wasting material on a test panel , consider the amount of time it will take to wet sand out the orange peel, and possibly have to repaint one or more panels.

I thought i got the material right.... I guess we will see tomorrow... I am not worried about paint wasting as i can leave the paint in the gun over night and not worry about it since it is an air tight seal. I will add 1/2 ounce of reducer to my mixture.

what is in there now is 4 of paint, 2 oz of reducer and 1/2 oz of hardener.

I will get it the best i can.

I love the way the gun handles It was nice and smooth operating. Not to heavy not a whole lot of kickback and easy on the fingers. i can definitely see why it is named "possibly the best gun of all time"

Your mix sounds right-and a little more thinner won't hurt, it's the heat thats going to mess with you! Don't get discouraged, Iv'e been painting for more than 30 years and some days i get my butt handed to me!! Sounds like you have done your home work , Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks again again for all the help haha

I have done about 10 hours of internet research on the gun, on the paint i am using and how to spray it.

I know it all comes into practice, but if i can master the proper rattle can technique and have no stripping i am sure that i can spray this fine once i get it to leave the gun right.

I will keep you posted. tomorrow i want to have it all done and curing!
