I have seen the two tow straps looped together by passing one end through the loop of the other. that may make them difficult to seperate after their use but it is safer than that double hook deathtrap dipicted in that photo.

If you have to put two tow straps together, it helps if you put a dowel between them. If you don't understand I can demonstrate when I get off work.

The only thing that would make that safe is to have your kid hold on to it for you while you extracted the stuck vehicle. Then the loops couldn't side off or anything.

I've got a dumb question.....If a guy has 2 perfectly good tow hooks why not just mount them securely on his rig rather than building that safety hazard in the first place?!

If all else fails, and you can't find a point to attach to, many Jeeps have slots in the frame the Trail Recovery Hook can be attached to after slightly modifying your hooks to face away from each other. The downside is that the hook will probably chew up the frame hole. Like we said, an attachment point of last resort.
OMFG!!
