I saw a guy try to pull a grand cherokee out of a huge mudhole with something like this. But instead of 2 straps it was a strap and a chain connected by 2 hooks like this.

Once i saw that i stood far away and watched as the chain broke and the chain whipped back and went through the back window of the GC and came out the drivers side rear door window. Im not sure what it was hooked to on the Grand as all i could see was a strap coming up out of the water/mud but they managed to take a 2 day old jeep and hydrolock it then bust out 2 windows and nearly kill the driver and they still did not get it out until the next day by which time the water had seeped inside and totally wrecked the carpet/seats.

or at least use the hitch pin.

but that's why i have a hook cluster in my kit from my towing days.
works on every vehicle ever made. available at all towing supply companies.
anyone can buy it, just ask a local tow truck driver where there supply shop is. maybe he'll just sell you his.

mind you, this should only be used for winching, but i have had to tug with it once. as long as it's in the correct reinforced slot, it should be alright. it's far better than that 2 hook contraption.

next i wanna get is a V-strap that hooks to both sides and has a ring in the middle to hook your winch to.

X2 a stick or branch works good too.

A few years ago a guy got killed at a mudbog from two straps linked togather by a D-ring....In front of his wife and two young kids. Strap snapped and the D-ring clipped him in the back of the head.

There is a write-up here in the tech section showing how to correctly attach two straps..
