which dana 30 would be the best??
Bought a Dana 30 out of a 97' Cherokee. Has 3.55 gears and no vacuum disconnect, down side is its a low pinion..right now I have a high pinion 30 with vacuum disconnect and 3.07 gears. Plan was to get a matching 3.55 gear rear end since I blew mine. So question is, keep the high pinion, install 3.55 to match back axle and do a vacuum delete. Or just install the low pinion that's basically ready to go. Is a low pinion that bad?

It depends on your lift and how you use your jeep,On a big lift and off road low pinion can give you had drive shaft angles and get the drive shaft hung up on things.A high pinion fixes all those problems and is a tiny bit stronger off road.

low pinion only came in 00 and 01 models. 95-99 are the best dana 30's because they are all high pinion and have the bigger size ujoints
high pinion is about 30% stronger
deeper ratios and high pinion all day for me

High pinion or bust... just convert your HP disconnect over, or if you don't want the trouble go find another housing. I found them for as little as $50. Get yourself a full carrier locker and put whatever gears you want in there...
The only lp d30 i'd remotely consider is the WJs..... w/ their brakes and upper and lower C's... but then you're gonna have a lot of fabbing ahead of ya...

Wait, are you sure it's a low pinion? If it came out of a 97, it should be a high pinion.

That might be the case. The guy I got it off of seemed to be honest. Had a 8.25 rear end he said was from a 94'. And he said this was a 97'.

this axle has orange silicone on the cover, so its been opened up before. Also has a set on newer pro comp shocks..maybe I'll get lucky and it'll have a locker in it. Haha
