4.0L 5-speed with 33" tires and swapped axles, I'm hoping that whomever did that used 3.55:1 gearing. MJs never came with Chrysler axles but rather D35s and D44s. However if someone were to drop one in they'd need to either redo mounts for SUA or just convert to SOA setup (not that hard).

What does 4-door have to do with a manual Cherokee? lol I drive a 4 door '99 with a 5 speed.

Easy on me. I've never been a jeep owner before. Owned this Comanche for 2 weeks now. I'm still learning..I've just never seen a 4 door with a manual. And 2 doors are not that common. That's way I figured 3.07 axles might be harder to come by. But I take it they're not

ohhhhh. Okay that puts things into context! Yeah, SOA is an option with an axle swap or just a means of achieving some lift.
These pics should help you out. Below are the four diff covers that came from any XJ or MJ from the factory:

The C8.25 and D35 can be confused if you're not used to looking at them. A D35's differential is oval and follows the shape of the cover. C8.25 has a very distinctive flat lip that likes to get stuck on rocks:

I think about 10% of XJs were sold with manual transmissions. A damn shame, really. It's 2-door sticks that are really rare. Body has nothing to do with the drivetrain though.

Good info guys! I'm learning something new every time I get on here. Lol. I'll have to take a look under it when I get off work tonight. See if I can find a stamp somewhere saying what gear ratio it is. And check out the shape of the cover. I'm pretty sure its not flat tho. So it most likely is the D35

As far as spring perches go, any XJ axle bolts right in. MJ axles have the spring perches underneath. Not sure what changes as far as shock mounts.
My 97 has the Dana 30 high pinion front axle. pretty happy with it so far. I just picked up a Dana 44 Rear from an 89 XJ. It has 3.07 gears so I am replacing with 33 spline axles and a detroit locker.
