Anyone carry an extra one? Was told they go out quite often and should carry an extra.

Driving home from church yesterday and after pulling out of a parking lot and hitting the accelerator wow did this thing sputter. pop, backfired, stalled then restarted and off we went. After thinking about the last few days and how the idle has been going whackie, I googled this stuff. I guess my crank sensor is going bad, glad I got a couple spares as recommended by my mechanic.

Yep, I had a spare because I was told that the AutoZone CPS I installed was crap and would leave me stranded in Compton at midnight even if I never went to Compton (at midnight). So I bought a Mopar CPS ($52) which I threw under the back seat where it's been for the last 2 or 3 years while the Duralast CPS ($28) continues work just fine.

I would recommend testing the CPS you plan on keeping for a spare by installing it and running the engine. You'll get some valuable practice swapping them out which will come in handy if you find you have to do this on a trail in the middle of nowhere and you'll be confident that your spare works.

I started carrying an extra one when I started running a daily newspaper route. I was always out in the middle on nowhere and if the CPS goes out, you're walking. It's cheap insurance.

1,3,4, and 5 should be done in the near future. Definitely before replacing any parts.
