Default Comanche

I am Planning on buying a 88 Comanche , rwd, 4speed. Runs and drives good. In good overall condition. Question if decided to make it 4wd? Since it it was built Off of the Cherokee uniformed will parts from a Cherokee driveline bolt right up? Thanks

Thanks that is what I was thinking. Not sure to make it a 4 wd or leave it alone ? It's a pretty decent truck. I have a 01 cherokee now.

everything from the doors forward is identical to a 4 door XJ. the 4x4 swap is all bolt in.

The only difference was the placement of the proportioning valve for the brakes. It was over the rear differential and connected to it via a rod. If you lift it, be sure to get the drop bracket or an extended rod for the brakes to function properly. Good luck.

There is actually two Prop valves. The one underneath the MC still and the one in the rear.

The braking system is different from our Xjs. I've done serviced two of them. The rear valve adjusts pressure/compensates for loading of the cargo area.

They are different in one way... one EXTRA Prop valve to compensate for trailer weight and bed weight. But back on topic.

OP, as everyone has said, the drivetrains are essentially the same except for the rear driveshaft being longer if I'm not mistaken. Everything else bolts right in.

Well that choice is yours. I'd chose the nicer of the two for a DD and the other for a trail/driver. Good luck.

basically what everyone said, 4x4 convo is bolt in and is everything from the trans to the axles (only the front if you find matching gear ratios). Did mine over 3 weekends while still driving it to work during the week.
