Clearcoat flaking
I know it's a common problem. Just wondering if I scrub as much of the flaking clearcoat off as posible and then wax and polish the whole thing... will that slow it down?

unfortunatly it will speed up its demise. the clear coat is there to protect the color coat and with out it it will die within a month.. heck if yer body is stright send it to Macco and throw a cheapo paint job on it...if you do the prep IE taking off emblems, trim etc yourself and let them spray it it will look decent...

If you wanna do it for cheap just sand off the crap and respray a layer or two of clear.
I painted my entire 2 door XJ with rattle cans, and anyone who finds out it was rattle can is just shocked. It does indeed look very, very good.
And I did more than just a clear coat.
