Painting question....flat clearcoat?
so, im in the middle of painting my jeep. I have a good bit done, but the back of the jeep has a taped off area that, when the tape was removed, left a bit of a height difference between old paint and new paint level.
This is not really a surprise, but it does worry me a little. I do not want this paint to chip off around my carefully created design. However, i was painting in flat black, so a glossy clearcoat seems a little counter-productive. This line of thought of course relies upon my assumption that clearcoat protects the paint and helps stop chipping (right?)
So i did see this online tonight: http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=164
Does anyone have any experience with it?
Has anyone used a similar but better product?
(keep in mind, this is a rattle-can job, i cant do any mixing or spray gun stuff.)

whats special about that clear coat in the link.... most clears are UV protectant & non-yellowing... also, clears dont only come in gloss, that one in the link is matte... which would prolly be the best for applying to flat, & keeping a "dull", flat-ish finish... if u lay on the clear evenly, i dont see anything wrong what ur thinking.... it'll protect the paint longer from fading & getting weathered, & if u lay on multiple coats of clear, u protect from scratches a little better... touch ups would be easy too
i say do it
