the old full size Cherokee's were 2 doors, while the Wagoneer was a 4 door.

Do you mean the grand wagoneers or the 87ish ones that have the same body as the newer XJs.

The old full size Cherokees came in 3 models - you could get a Cherokee (2 door), a Wagoneer (4 door), or a Grand Wagoneer (4 door with some niceties). All have the SJ moniker.
