Found a guy wanting to trade axle off his CJ for axles with 3.55 gears in them his have 4.10s. Question is is the AMC 20 any good and how hard of a swap will it be?

IIRC, they will be too short, and have a different bolt pattern. And I think the 20 is a 2-piece axle. You could always full-float it, but it seems like it would be a PITA to make work under an XJ

the cj amc20 is wimpier than the one under the widetrack one's under sj's and such. the quadractrac ones are offset, the tubes are not as big as they should be. i wanted to find one and use it, but after some research, my 8.8 is tougher, if i ever build it.

Buy this international scout dana 44 I have. Its just about an inch shorter than XJ width, and with adapters (you'll need them for the bolt pattern) it would be right at xj width.
3.73s, open, already has leaf perches and shock mounts.
Not sure how far you are, but Id toss it to ya for 100

Yea. Im close to chattanooga TN.
Dont really want to drive very far to meet.. I know that sounds ****ty..but I had to drive all the way to ATL to buy it, then picked the thing up to find out it wasn't out of an xj like dude said.
It'd work just great with some adapters... It needs drums too..has the brakes..just no drums. Or if you plan on building it its a good platform..swap on discs..and dont worry about the drums.
I just need it out of my damn garage. I wanted to build it..but decided to wait on building a 44.
