On a side note, I've noticed that when I look at used Wranglers on Yahoo Auto's, FAR AND AWAY the majority of Wrangles for sale are 3 years older or less, (out of around 500 that come up for sale in my 200mi. radius, only about 50 or 60 are more than 3 or 4 years old.)

I see this as a large number of people thinking they'd be COOL by driving a Wrangler, but HAD NO IDEA of the negatives, (ride, road noise, MPG, no cargo space)

After putting up with it for 2 or 3 years they found out they weren't as cool as they thought they were, (THEMSELVES, not the Jeep), and got rid of it.

As for me I could drive a Wrangler till the day I die, I'm not saying I'm cool, I'm just saying you have to be a Jeep person to have a Wrangler as your daily driver, and I am.

Ive daily driven a 92 YY 2.5L it had excellent mpg's and that was with a 4 inch lift on 33's. They also wheel awesome despite the hate those things will go anywhere and its so easy to wheel in them since theyre so small. I now have a 88 xj its my DD. Both are bad *** vehicles id say the wrangler just has more of the cool factor but hey so does the xj and you can go wheeling with a lot of people in the back as opposed to the wrangler. If I found am affordable wrangler one day id ****** it in a heartbeat any day.

The best I've heard it is from a friend of mine who now has a 1998 TJ. He used to have a 1998 XJ, he said he's glad the XJ was his first vehicle, because if the TJ had been, he'd gotten himself hurt due to it being less stable. The reason he got his TJ was because he'd wanted one since he was a kid, and he loves that fact that he has it now. As far as going off road, he said that there are things he REALLY struggles with in the XJ that his TJ will walk right though, and there are things his TJ REALLY struggled with that his XJ would walk right through. He said that he does miss his XJ at times, but he still loves his TJ, it all comes down to how much you want which vehicle. Me, I love my XJ, but one day I WILL own a CJ, wanted one since I was a kid. Bottom line, the XJ and TJ are both going to perform VERY well off road, you'll just have trouble where your buddy don't, and the same will happen to him

I'm not going to say this is true for everyone, but in my opinion the majority of wrangler only owners I've met are douches. For some reason the xj crowd is pretty cool. On that note, I own both.

Honestly, why does anyone bother to compare? XJ has a better wheelbase? I've seen tons of stretched TJs. XJs have vulnerable bodies? I've seen tons of exo-cages.

The point is, any "con" can be delt with to ultimately get the same result. I never understood why people hate on wranglers. I personally think they have more bolt on potential, but thats just me. At the end of the day, I love my cherokee because its cheap, and because its mine, down to every bolt I've turned on it. It's more of a sentimental thing. If you look at any crazy hardcore builds, no matter what they start with, typically, the body disappears to a buggy like cage. Usually you are only left with a hood, and maybe some body panels to resemble what the build started with. It just goes to show the base rig really doesn't matter. I've seen a GMC sierra based truggie that could go to some pretty nasty places. Not my first choice, but you can build just about anything to go anywhere. It just depends on where you want to go.

And for the debate, I've had pretty good success with the "jeep wave" with just about all drivers, except for the mall crawling JKs. I swear just about every lifted JK you see was bought off the lot that way and the driver has no idea how to engage the 4X4.
