From a pure wheeling standpoint the only thing a Wrangler has over XJs that can't easily be replaced is a real frame. I'd rather have a longer wheel base and I can always convert to coils in the rear.
Unless you want the cool factor of easily removed doors and a top there's really no reason for a Wrangler over Cherokee in most cases. Don't even get me started on the pos that is the JK.
That being said, I still want a TJ. I'm single with no kids and rarely have any passengers so the space isn't an issue for me, but the initial cost isn't worth it when I could pick up a second XJ and build a serious trail rig for what I'd spend on a stock TJ. You can't get one around here for under $7k. Even rust bucket 4 banger 80s YJs don't go any lower than $3500 around here.

I want a TJ for a DD (that would be wheeled occasionally) but the damn thing just doesn't have enough room to be my DD. I do want the easily removed top, soft tops, bikini tops, half doors. It would be cool. I guess I'll surfice with making my 91s doors removable. Lol
I mean if you are really going to hate, and get down to separating XJs from Wranglers (which technically weren't in WWII). Maybe you should hate on the sticker just because Jeep alone didn't win the war, right?
BUT to keep this thread on topic, I love my Cherokee and have never owned a Wrangler. Went wheeling once in my old '01 (2" lift, GY Wrangler 235/75) with my buddy whose YJ sits on 32s. I went everywhere he did and had an easier time at couple points. Like most have said, it all comes down to preference. I will never buy a wrangler cause I am cheap and enjoy the extra space.
