Cherokee and Grand Cherokee?
Why is it that the XJ's are so popular and quite hard to find on craigslist but Grand cherokees are all over the place? I searched for info but couldn't find much.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Maybe because they are less expensive and simpler/easier to work on and modify? Lift components are more available for the XJ, but manufacturers are finally starting to come out with more stuff for the WJs.

Not a tough question to answer if you think in terms of mass appeal - and numbers. Cherokee manufacturing ended in what, say 2001/2002(?), making them no-longer available to those who wanted them. But, as you know, Grand Cherokee (GC) manufacturing didn't stop. So, the buying public who still has the Cherokee thing stuck in their heads goes and buys that new GC to satisfy the craving (new Jeep Vocabulary word coming right up). The population of GC's continues to swell, many are disappointed that it's really not a Cherokee, it's too much of a ride for them, reliability issues come in waves or they get "upside-down" with their loan (and so on). And that's why I think XJ's are hard to find and GC's are all over the place - because people want what they can't have!

Not to mention, a lot of the average buyers find 93-98 GCs to have a very dated appearance. I like 'em, but they're not the same curvy wavy "cool" that people like; by contrast, Cherokees have a more devoted market base, so they get sold less and are more sought after.

Nah, it not that much of a difference:
Curb weights:
XJ: 3,357 lb
ZJ: 3,574 lb (I6) and 3,901 lb (v8)
WJ: 3,669 lb (no engine specified, assuming I6)
But apparently the WKs are pigs!: 4,735 lb with 4x4 & the 5.7l.

Wow, the Chinese XJs are pretty cool looking. I wonder if you could buy the front-end and slap in on a US XJ.
