The XJ is never coming back guys, I'm sorry to tell you. Politics have determined we won't ever see a vehicle again that isn't designed with tree-hugging in mind. Even the new Camaro/Mustang/Challengers get DECENT fuel mileage.
BUT, there is a loop hole...
The only way a TRUE XJ might come back is if it's marketed as a fleet vehicle - which means it doesn't have to abide by CAFE standards. Those big Chevy Express vans or work trucks you see driving around? Yeah, look at the window stickers - they all say that environmental ratings are not applicable to those vehicles.
So, they make a modernized XJ with a stout motor, "intended" for forest services or whatever... and they bypass all of the environmental crap. You'd need to own a business to buy one new, but used.. that's a different story.
