The 2014 Jeep Liberty is to be badged as a Cherokee, of course it wont be the same as the ones we all remember.

Launching in May 2013 as a 2014 model, the new 2014 Jeep Cherokee replaces both the Liberty and the Patriot in Jeep’s lineup. The Cherokee will seem pointless to some, being, in essence, a bigger, taller Compass, with similar styling and the same basic platform. Traditionally, Liberty/Cherokee have been a step higher than Patriot offroad; indications are that this Cherokee will be a step down, though Ralph Gilles and Sergio Marchionne have told the public to be impressed with its capability. Given the Jeep JJ, Chrysler might indeed hold surprises for us.
The “Liberkee” below uses the general shape and ride height that match the mule caught in spy photos.

They might call it a Cherokee but it'll never BE a Cherokee. I heard about this a few months ago and I sent Jeep an email telling them that if they called it a Cherokee that there'd be a lot of pissed-off XJ owners. All of us should send them email letting rhem know just how many of us there are.
Great, I just thought of something, it's going to be even a bigger PITA when we go into the parts store now.

Waste of money. Not hatin but they keep the wrangler alive them come out with this plastic junk. Jeez jeep needs to get there heads together

 

I say we flood their servers with rant emails about how they should bring back the XJ with similarities to the old style (but with new more modern body and more modern technology). We should get a thing going on all the sites (here, Jeep forum, pirate, naxja, cherokeetalk). We get a thousand or so people to blow their email server up we may get noticed.

I was thinking about this the other day, my thought was that if they brought it back it should be on a wrangler chassis with a body resembling the original but in the back of my mind I knew it would be ifs....

 

I would be happier if the brought back the 4.0 not necessarily the cherokee. Idk about other Xj owners but I don't care about mpg. the 4.0 was bulletproof and they need to bring it back.

 

Ill second the motion.

 

It is not rare to see the 4.0 go 300, 000+ miles either

 

Too bad the 4.0 will never pass emissions standards. I love these threads.
