Default cherokee axles

I need some help deteriming what year cherokee my dana 35 axle is out of. I built a offroad samuri with axles out of a cherokee. After I got rearend set up to fit I welded spiders up to make it posi. I then had to change carrier cause I wanted to change gear ratio. I then had no spiders for the differnt carrier. Theres 3 sets of spiders for sale and I dont know which set ill need. I dont even remember what year gears I used cause just after I got gears in I had a wreak an suffer from tbi (tramatic brain injury). So ive lost a huge part of my memory. I dont know how to tell what year my axles out of

Not sure why you would pic a turd of an axle like the 35 but there are three different versions. The non c-clip version which came out in 84 and was used till 89. The first gen c-clip versions lasted till 94 and have a 1.625" hub diam. and 95 and up are 1.560". You'll also find this axle listed as an AMC Model 35 which is it's actual name but most refer to it as a Dana 35 and it stuck. It's the weak baby sister to the AMC Model 20 found in CJs and some FSJs.

Its a 87 samuri with the cherokee axles, 4-link lin rear with fox nitromethane shocks for weight carrying cap, leafs up front, a diesel out of a 80s dodge d-50, and full roll cage.

The 35 is one of the weakest solid axles you could use. Built or not I'd rebuild a better axle for the rear while it's down. Can't believe you didn't grenade it already with the spiders welded.

I don't think he's driven on it yet.

Ok, out of all that you spent on it, buy a ford 8.8 and build it. Easy.

ok I looked at diff. and I seen no grove for clip. So that means my axles are from a 84-87 cherokee. Right???? Thanks folks

I forgot too look when I was under there. Would center pin be held in by a roll pin that you knock in and NOT a pin with threads?

You won't see the c-clips till you pull the center pin and push in a shaft. And it's held in by a bolt, 5/16" I think, been a while.

I have no center pin or spider gears in there and I think the center pin on mine is held in with roll pin. I think its fron a late 80s cherokee

If the axles don't have a groove for clips on them and have flanges that hold them in at the bearings then it's a pre 90 non c-clip version.
